Jake's first Boat Ride
Weekend at The Lake
Earlier this month we took the kids to the lake house for the weekend. They all had such a great time. Jake was fearless and wanted to just jump right in the water. I swore that I would never ever buy or use one of those harness things for children that looks like you have your child on a leash. But I broke down and used one on Jake when we were around the water. He wanted to walk right off the end of the pier. It's amazing the difference between girls and boys. The girls had a great time fishing and boat riding. Thanks Grandma and Papa for a great weekend.

Loveys
I just recently persuaded Jacklyn to give her much cherished Lovey, Ty Ty a bath. She never wants to part with Ty Ty long enough for me to put her in the wash. However, the other day, she finally agreed so I jumped at the chance to wash away some of the awful stink that Ty Ty has acquired from all Jacklyn's love and adoration. Once Ty Ty was submerged in the bubbles Jacklyn was very sad and was asking how much longer till she's done momma? She sat by the washer for a long time clutching Jake's "Clean" Ty Ty to comfort her temporarily. I don't know what she is going to do next year when she can't take Ty Ty to Kindergarten. My sister wrote a wonderful piece on her web blog Tea Worthy (http://www.teaworthy.blogspot.com/)

Metamorphosis
The girls received a butterfly habitat from the Easter Bunny this year. We received 10 tiny caterpillars and about one week later they all hung from the top of the container and formed their chrysalis.

Another week later, we went to the lake for the weekend and when we returned we had 4 beautiful butterflies. The girls really wanted to see them come out of the chrysalis so we would sit by the habitat and watch patiently. However, the girls soon got bored so we all went outside to play. Only 5 minutes later, we came in and 2 more had emerged. It was so frustrating. All 10 butterflies eventually came out of their chrysalis and we didn't get to see even one of them make the transformation. It was a really fun project though. The girls and mommy really enjoyed watching the whole process. Jake loved it too. One of his favorite words is "Bugs". We kept the Painted Lady butterflies in the habitat for about a week so the girls could enjoy watching them. We released them this weekend and they all took off flying except one. It's wings hadn't developed correctly and it was having trouble flying. Kaytlin said "That's okay momma, I'll take care of this one. It can live in the habitat and I will take it outside every day to practice flying. It can't help it if it was born different." She was so precious. Later that day after many trips outside to practice flying the butterfly took off way up in the sky and flew away. Kaytlin was so happy and proud of herself.

Chicken Dance
Jake has an Elmo video that he loves and in the video they do the chicken dance. Jake gets so excited when that part comes on. He starts dancing and laughs at mamma for doing the funky moves. Me Me and Pa Pa got him an adorable chicken for his birthday that sings the tune to the chicken dance. He just loves it. Thanks Me Me and Pa Pa!

Jake's 1st Birthday
Jake's birthday celebration started off with opening presents from mommy and daddy in the morning. In the afternoon, Tonya and cousins came over and we had a moonwalk, cake, and presents. In the evening, Grandma Janet, Papa Rick, Aunt Jeannine and cousins, and Aunt Jodi came over for cake and presents. The girls had a blast jumping in the moonwalk all day. Jake was scared of the moonwalk until 30 minutes before it was time for the moonwalk to be returned. It was a great day. I can't believe my little boy is already one year old. His current vocabulary consists of: momma, dada, bird, bug, ball, kitty, dog, duck, and dirty.
